The story of “Duvet”

The above images feature a lovely poetic and visual interpretation of the album done by my close friend, Maria Scotto Di Uccio.

So… you may be wondering how I came up with the album, the names for each, or even what I was intending. Or, you could have stumbled across this page on accident. Either ways, I am glad you are here and I hope you enjoy reading this. I’m not going to be formal like almost everything else I post publicly. Consider this authentic word vomit:)

So, about first song, titled Duvet, the little intro that you hear is actually a phone recording of some chimes I found at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, Florida. I started messing around on the chimes and my friend suggested that I record it. Something about that moment playing with the chimes, feeling the wind blowing on my face (it was a breezy day) inspired me to play the rhythm you hear in the song. After recording it, I went home and started working on the track. I had no expectations but I knew I wanted it to be atmospheric, cinematic and beautiful and everything else fell into place. Before releasing my Album, I didn’t make lofi beats. I made EDM. So creating this track was a totally new feeling. I called it Duvet because to me, the song felt extremely comforting, as if I were being enveloped in a blanket of warmth and softness.

My mindset when making sunrise was a simple one. Make a chill vibe that I could wake up to. Here, I took the liberty of experimenting with jazzy melodic lines. I was quite nervous because I don’t think of myself as a jazz musician, or good at jazz. However, from being around a couple friends in my undergrad who were really good jazz musicians, I think some of their knowledge rubbed off on me I guess and I finally had the ear for it. At around 50 seconds is where you can hear me singing these improvised lines layered with a piano and muted trumpet instrument. I also then asked one of my best friends, Joey Dies, who is a professional jazz trombonist (dude graduated from NEC with a jazz trombone degree…. kinda crazy) and we just whipped this track up. Joey really completed this track in my opinion and this track remains one of my favorite chill vibe tracks to date.

Linen is personally the most fun track I ever made. Something about the vibe I feel truly fits my personality when I am very happy.

Fun fact, Pearl was originally on this album, but I sent it to a record label and they loved it so much that they wanted to sign it. This resulting in me needing to remove it from the album, however, the consequences of that one action has gotten me where I am today. Pearl currently has over 1.4 million streams on Spotify which is my best performing song to date!

I love Sea of Dreams. It is just a pure chill vibe to lay back and relax to in my opinion.
